Start living in the present. Your kids notice the small things, including a parent’s ability to stay focused during a conversation whether in a car or at the kitchen table. As parents we establish routines and habits both accidently and on purpose that our kids will take with them into adulthood. Take time each week to plan for the daily events, secure appointments and reflect on achievements, but when the planning is done live in the present moment. The other idea to consider, when thinking about the present moments, is that your children are growing older with each day. Too much time spent dwelling on the past or looking into the future will leave you with few memorable moments from the present.
