As part of the parent coaching I do, I’m frequently called in to talk about how parents can continue to support their kids while helping them develop independence. While meeting with the parents of a soon-to-be high schooler recently, our discussion turned to a challenge I see a lot during the middle school years. Kids want to discover who they are, independent of mom and dad. This desire for individuality often leaves parents feeling like they are no longer needed especially when it comes to school. Kids may be struggling to achieve in school, while being reluctant to receive any help from mom or dad. Tackle the transition to independence with confidence after viewing today’s show.
