Email / Voicemail to Your Child's Teachers
The first week of school is chaotic for everyone, teachers included. By week two the dust starts to settle. Send an email or leave a voice mail for each of your child's teachers.
Sample email that conveys a positive message.
Dear Mr./Miss/Ms. _____________,
Thank you for being a positive influence in our child’s life this year. We appreciate your effort as a teacher and look forward to the months ahead. (Your child’s name) shared the class syllabus with us this past week. We were excited to see (share one highlight from the syllabus).
Enjoy the week ahead!
Warmly,
(Signed with your first and last names. Refrain from using a title (Mr., Mrs, Dr., etc.))
Parents to (Your child’s name)
And the email that teacher's dread receiving.
Dear Mr./Miss/Ms.____________,
We're concerned! It's week two and we have yet to see anything resembling homework or quality learning from our son/daughter (Your child's name). Your syllabus didn't provide a clear direction for the course or curriculum you are planning to teach. We are considering whether or not this class will challenge our child. Please call us this week to discuss.
Mr. and Mrs. ______________
Remember the goal in communicating with your child's teachers is to build a positive connection for the coming year. Adding teachers to your child's team serves to further strengthen her web of support, increasing her chances of thriving during the middle school years.
